Welcome to Greek Lifestyle!

Today I’m sharing some really exciting news!

I’m traveling from Adelaide to Canberra via a short stopover in Melbourne, where I’m typing this blog post, sipping peppermint tea, and taking the time to chime in and do a few social media updates. You see, I’m off to Canberra to share the story behind the story of Greek Life, and how this book came to be. I’m so happy to be visiting our Capital city, and meeting the lovely people of Canberra tonight at the Hellenic Club at Woden.

Greek Life book available nationally in AustraliaMy latest exciting news is that Greek Life can now be found in each state and territory in Australia. From Adelaide to Darwin, and Perth to Canberra, and all the cities in between.

Greek Life continues to sit proudly in homes across our beautiful country, and beyond in cities around the globe. In fact, I’ve just received a phone call from a lady who requires 2 signed copies for her friends, with one being sent Germany!

Greek Life – people tell me it’s the best!

Greek Life – people tell me it’s the best!

Welcome to GL!

When I embarked on my self-publishing journey I soon realised that this small business venture of mine as a first time author also needed much focus and dedication to get my book into the right businesses. The types of business that were well know for their great customer service, their professionalism, offering a great mix of genres, and who were quite simply ‘great operators’. I knew intimately, that my book Greek Life was to be stocked in only the best stores in Australia.

With that in mind, I went firstly to the stores that I shopped in here in South Australia, and was overjoyed when these wonderful bookstore managers agreed to stock Greek Life. My list of stockists grew steadily in SA, Victoria, and New South Wales, and before I knew it my first print run had sold out.

I then pondered the idea of a reprint. Well how could I not go down this path with over 200 books on back-order? And so, the second print run, that was slightly delayed due to personal commitments, was eventually delivered a few days before Christmas.

My back orders were filled just in time for the festive season and there was something quite satisfying knowing that I hadn’t let people down. You see, my word is my calling card!

This now gave me the wonderful opportunity to seek stockists in other states in Australia, and soon Greek Life would be stocked in a few more shops in Melbourne, and new markets would be found in Queensland, Tasmania, and WA. I’m delighted that Greek Life can now be found in almost each state and territory within Australia.

My next goal is to have Greek Life stocked in the Northern Territory!  With only limited stock available, it would be wonderful for all people across Australia for whom Greek culture means something, to be able to secure copies of Greek Life for their families, friends, and loved-ones.

Within its pages, readers will go on a remarkable journey with the story of family and migration, and join the unique, beautiful and inimitable celebrations that surround New Years, Easter, Christmas, Love and Other Ceremonies, Births and Baptisms, and Honoring our Loved Ones. At the core is the philosophy of the Greek way of life that encompasses the benefits of the Mediterranean Lifestyle, plus so much more.

Interwoven within its pages, is thought inspiring philosophy and beautiful and sumptuous full colour photography. Greek Life transports readers through a visual and culinary journey like no other!

Greek Life is the perfect gift for birthdays, graduations, kitchen teas, Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day, Valentines Day and more. So love the one you’re with, and give the gift that keeps giving.

Eating the Greek way!

The Mediterranean Diet is more than food, it is a lifestyle that encompasses socialising, working, incidental exercise through gardening and dancing, enjoying coffee, oh and a few glasses of wine, eating seasonally, having very little dairy, enjoying seafood, but having limited meat.

It is mostly a vegetarian and vegan way of life especially when observing times of Lent and fasting.

Of course there are times that are celebrated throughout the calendar year, and we all know what that looks like! A Greek Feast, is like no other. Tables set with the most colourful assortment of food usually dressed in olive oil, lemon juice and oregano (or other homegrown herb) , aromatically prepared and slow cooked meats, mouthwatering sweets, wine, the elixir of the gods, and lots of kefi!

Canberra launch of Greek Life

Canberra launch of Greek Life!

As some of you may remember, Greek Life was to be a private book written especially for my family and extended family. Then everything changed when I had the courage to say out loud that I had written a book. It was no longer locked away in the corners of my mind, or in a document on my laptop.

Eugenia Pantahos is bringing her book Greek Life to Canberra. Join her as she shares her story. Signed copies of this limited edition book available on the night. Don't miss out!!!

Bringing Greek Life to the lovely city of Canberra!

When I first embarked on the journey of bringing Greek Life to the public, I could only imagine some of the possibilities that lay ahead. I knew intimately that relationships are everything not just in our personal lives, but also in our professional lives. I’ve had so many wonderful people, too numerous to mention here, but nonetheless, these amazing individuals expanded my circle, introduced me to others who could open doors, and before I knew it, the community took notice, and I was book signing, being invited to give speeches, having a few gigs at being an MC, plus so much more.

In May this year, I shared my story with the lovely people in Sydney at a Taste of Greece Lunch. It was a wonderful experience and I got to meet some amazing people, who came along to listen about how Greek Life came to be. We have all become friends, and share and like each others posts on social media. Together we are celebrating the new friendships and in this modern age, it means we can connect, and stay in touch, even from afar.

Almond Milk deliciousness

Almond Milk Deliciousness

I’ve been busy in the kitchen and decided to make almond milk. Some time ago, my friend AJ had explained to me just how simple it was.

Creative in the kitchen, homemade Almond Milk

Almond Milk Deliciiousness

It was on my list of things to try out and so on Sunday afternoon whilst waiting for my daughter to fly back from Europe, I did just that.

The result was a delicate and delicious homemade almond milk that tasted like it had come from heaven.

It’s lovely unsweetened (suits my taste buds), but  of course if you like a little sweetness, then add as much sugar as you like. Pure vanilla essence, or a dash of ground cinnamon can be added too, making it just that little more exotic!

Here is the recipe:

In a glass bowl add 1/2 cup almonds (skins on), 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1 cup of boiling water.

Leave for 10 minutes to soften.

Remove skins from almonds, place in a sieve and rinse thoroughly.

Place the blanched almonds in a blender with 2 cups of fresh cold water, and blend until the almonds have been ground up.

Drain the mixture through a sieve that has been lined with muslin.

The result is silky almond milk that is perfectly divine.

I placed the ground almond pieces from the cloth into a bowl, added 1/4 cup soaked raisins, and 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Mix through gently and  serve as a side sprinkling of deliciousness with the almond milk.

Taste of Greece Dinner – The Blue Zones – 17 May 2016

An amazing bunch of people joined in the celebration of the Greek Lifestyle at the Taste of Greece Dinner with guest speaker Dr Evangeline Mantzioris discussing the Blue Zones and in particular why the people from the island of Ikaria enjoy health and longevity. Basically its where people Taste of Greece Dinnerforget to die! Here’s a link to an article that pretty well sums it up!

tog dinnerThese long-table dinners for up to 25 people allows for shared learning over amazing Greek food starting with dips and pita bread, spanakopita, saganaki cheese, local pan fried calamari, melt in your mouth souvlaki, and a glass  of either white or red Greek wine, loukoumades for dessert, followed by tea or coffee, and of course great company. I’m more than happy to discuss catering for vegans and vegetarians too!

The dinners are interactive with much discussion and sharing of knowledge and ideas, whilst exploring meaningful themes, and infused with lots of laughter and fun!

I’ve been told recently, that my Taste of Greece dinners are now referred to as the ‘new blue zone’ – a place for social interaction, learning, fun, food, wine, laughter, connections and meaningfulness. Such a compliment!

As part of my personal philosophy of giving back, each guest went home with a gift bag and a lucky lady won an amazing $100 luxury hair voucher that was generously donated by my beautiful friends at Yots Hair, King William Road, Hyde Park, and a lucky gent won an amazing bottle of Coriole wine.
