Wow! Greek Life on Google Search

Okay, I just have to share this!

As part of my commitment to continued business improvement it’s important for me to measure data to enable me to make informed decisions.

When Greek Life appears on Google right hand side ads!

When Greek Life appears on Google right hand side ads!

So you can imagine my surprise when I discovered that my book Greek Life has its own Google advert on the right hand side of the screen.

This might not be a big deal for many of you reading this, but for a humble self published author who has put her heart and soul into bringing Greek Life literally to life…I’m joyfully surprised!

Let me take this opportunity to thank you all for your support on the journey so far. I am excited about what the future holds, and as things move forward I promise to keep you in the loop.

I’m in the process of finalising the second print run (wow…did I just type that?) . So, for now if you wish to get your hands on a copy that is hot off the press be sure to email me at jeanie.pantahos@bigpond.com with the subject line ‘Order for Greek Life’.

Loving the feedback

I’m simply loving the feedback from my readers of Greek Life. Here’s one that pretty well sums up my vision for Greek Life. I couldn’t have said it better!!

‘I had the pleasure of attending a book reading and meeting the lovely Author of Greek Life , Eugenia Pantahos. I sat listening to her stories of life growing up in a Greek household in the Diaspora, and it hit me now profoundly linked and similar our lives and experiences are.

What you need to know NOW about Greek Life

Greek Life – the perfect book to learn about Greek culture and traditions

For a Greek family cooking , and eating with others is a huge part of our culture and heritage. It is also Linked to our sense of Philotimo.

Philotimo is a Greek word that is without definition, but impacts the world beyond imagination. The word philotimo comes from the Greek root words “filos,” meaning friend, and “timi,” meaning honor. When Greeks have food , there is life and kefi , what we have in our homes is always on offer to others , no matter how much or how little we have.

Greek Life began as an idea to collaborate into some sort of book format Eugenia’s recipes , and those of her mother. Something to pass onto her three daughters , as well as other family members.

With that idea she formed a beautiful collection of recipes , marking every occassion in the Greek Calendar. Honouring every tradition of the rich Hellenic Culture . Something I for one value greatly and I know future generations will benefit from her explanations , simple recipes and stunning photographs !

Each section of the book starts with a philosophy & makes reference to that seasons celebrations. Each recipe has its own ‘life ‘ and explanation , so you as a reader can understand and appreciate the Greek traditions and customs behind the celebration.

You will find everything from ‘Wedding Bread ‘ to ‘koliva’ in this book , and even references to certain plants and greens we find in our gardens that are used in our cooking and salads.

With Greeks as we know , we don’t really care what you do , but rather ‘ where are you from ?’ . I was curious given I recognised Eugenia’s surname as my mothers relatives from her village. I finally mustered up the courage to put my hand up asking a question that led to where her in laws descended from , and it was indeed my Mothers village ! I so love this connection with Greeks.
Greek Life is so much more than a cookbook, given so much of Eugenia’s life and family are intertwined with it. It is also a wonderful reference for Greek Customs and way of life. It sits proudly on my coffee table , thank you Eugenia for writing such a beautiful Anthology for us to pass on to our children. – Eleni Tsemtsidis

Christmas with Culture

CHRISTMAS WITH CULTURE

I’m so proud to have 4 generations of my family and my book Greek Life (family, culture, food) featured in the iconic December/January holiday edition of SA Life Magazine. This gorgeous stylised photo was sent to me from The Stylist Loves.  Isn’t it just amazing?

SA Life open pages

The pièce de résistance at our Christmas table is the Avgolemono Soup. Although we celebrate Christmas in Summer, our family traditions has always meant that we start our lunch with this thick and creamy egg and lemon soup prepared with a combination of chicken and turkey stock. Hosting Christmas is always a large event for our family as we share our Christmas table(s) with anywhere between 35 and 50+ people! A true ‘act of love’!

Be sure to get your copies of Greek Life as a gift for yourself and your loved ones. This unique and timeless cultural Greek cookbook is  a true celebration of the Greek way of life, the Mediterranean Lifestyle, meaningfulness and connectedness, and supported by thought provoking philosophy and beautiful full colour photography.

Homemade Myzithra Cheese

HOMEMADE MTZITHRA CHEESE

Those who know me well, also know that I love learning about food, and experimenting and expanding my knowledge about food and in particular the food of Greece. With this in mind, i tried my hand at making fresh Myzithra cheese. Sometime ago my friend AJ explained just how easy it was, and since then I’ve entertained the thought a number of times. Last week I attended a business dinner where 3 amazing cheesemakers shared their stories. You can imagine that this was the inspiration to put desire into action and give it a go. It’s so simple, and delicious,  and as promised here is the recipe!

myzithra on toast1 Litre of full cream milk, heat nearly to the boil in a stainless steel pot (essential) – Remove from element – Add 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice – Stir gently – Set aside for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, line a suitably sized sieve with muslin or cheesecloth and place over a deep pot or bowl – Gently pour the milk (which should begin to look curdled) into the sieve – Allow to drain for 1-2 hours – When cooled either place in the fridge to further ‘set’ the cheese or using a spatula put the Myzithra into a bowl and place in the fridge for future use.

I enjoyed mine two ways. Firstly, on grainy toast, topped with vine ripened tomatoes, sprinkled with sea salt and freshly cracked pepper, and hand-rubbed rigani. Secondly, on grainy toast, drizzled with honey and sprinkled with ground cinnamon. A perfect way to start the day!

Enjoy!
